Swiss Epic 2019, Stage Winners!!!

Hello all,

Here a speedy update from my latest event, the “Swiss Epic” (20.08.9-24.08.19), a 5 days stage race with 350 km and 12000 m of climbing going from Davos-St.Moritz-Lenzerheide-Davos in Switzerland. The event is classified as UCI S1 stage race and owned by the IRONMAN organization.

I teamed up with multiple former Belgium Champion Frans Claes and we were going into the race as some of the favourites for the overall.

After the first to days, we found ourselves in the top 5 of each stage and we were really ready to give it a go for the overall win. Unfortunately during the 3 and 4 stage we were fighting with mechanical issues and crashes, so we lost a lot of time and the overall classification was not any longer possible to aim for. We worked out a new plan to finish of this event in a best possible way. The tactic was all in for the final very hard stage finishing in Davos…-we wanted at least a stage victory.

So did we as this plan worked out perfectly.

We attacked just as planned the other teams in the middle of the stage just when entering the last 15km climb of the day. We went all in and on the top just before the last decent we had a gab of more than 3 minutes. Even a little mistake from my side on the last descent when crashing could not even put our victory into any danger. We rode into Davos completely sure of the victory and could celebrate a super ending of this stage race.

As I told before, the Swiss Epic is owned by IRONMAN which also owns the “Tour de France” of Mountain Bike in South Africa, the Cape Epic. –Who knows what the plan is for next year?

Attached you will find some shots from the finish and the victory in Davos. Also see below the links to news and results from the race.

My next event will be “Skaidi Xtreme” in Norway on September 7th. And still to come this year, the World Championship in marathon MTB in Grächen, Switzerland. The 13th of October is another really important date for me as I have to defend my Luxembourgish national champion title in marathon in Esch in Luxembourg.
